All you need is the snap service pre-configured, In the case of Ubuntu 20.04, it comes with snap pre-installed.

If snapd package is not already installed then you can install it by running following command.

$ sudo apt install snapd

Step #1

Install the GPG key.

$ wget -qO- | sudo apt-key add -

Step #2

Add the repo to your apt lists directory.

$ echo deb stable non-free | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera.list

Step #3

Now type the following command to Update apt and install the Opera Browser package.

$ sudo apt update && sudo apt install opera-stable

Method 3: Install Opera using deb package(Direct Download)

Step #1

Download the Opera Browser .deb package file using wget command as follows.

$ wget

Note: This is the stable version(opera-stable_82.0.4227.58_amd64.deb) of Opera at the time of writing this article. Maybe the latest version will be released when you read this article in the future.

So, as per the version available, you have to mention the package in the above command.

Step #2

Now type the following command to install the downloaded package.

$ sudo dpkg -i opera-stable_82.0.4227.58_amd64.deb

If necessary run the following command to resolve missing dependencies and finish the install.

$ sudo apt-get install -f

That’s it, Opera Browser has been installed on your Ubuntu System, and you can start using it.

Starting Opera Browser

Opera can be launched from the command line by typing opera or In the Activities search bar type “Opera” and click on the icon.

How to Uninstall Opera from Ubuntu 20.04

Method #1

If you have installed Opera Browser via Snap type the following command:

$ sudo snap remove opera

Method #2

If you have installed the appication via Package Repository or direct .deb package then uninstall by running the below command:

$ sudo apt remove opera-stable
